Cheboksary Industrial Foundry (Promtractor-Promlit LLC) is located in the city of Cheboksary, Russian Federation, on the right bank of the Volga river about 600 km to the east of Moscow. The foundry was founded in 1972 as a part of Promtractor Works. Now it is the leading Russian manufacturer of large size steel castings with weight up to 6000 kg and size up to 2000 mm.

Promlit is a full service foundry that provides part evaluation and design, tooling development, pattern maintenance, prototypes, raw castings, casting finishing (grinding, shot blasting, tumbling) and required secondary services including machining, coating, heat treating.

The annual production capacity of the foundry is over 185000 tons of castings. The most important production equipment: sand system, molding lines, core making equipment, pouring systems, casting cleaning units, casting transport and sand reclamation system was purchased from the leading US foundry equipment manufacturers. Metal is molten in arc furnaces, the chemical composition during each melt is checked using X-ray or emission spectrometry and rapid chemical analysis method. The quality of castings is tested using modern methods of nondestructive testing. If necessary, hydrostatic and load tests are made. The foundry has the equipment for all kinds of thermal treatment: annealing, normalizing, tempering, and quenching in water and oil.

Quality Management System of PROMLIT is certified according to the requirements of ISO 9001:200. Independent inspectors from certification bodies regularly run audits of Quality Management System and certified products of the foundry. Sometimes the tests are made in the independent laboratories abroad. The casings are supplied to numerous consumers in Russia, CIS and other foreign countries. The flexibility of production allows easy adaptation to specific requirements of the national standards. The number of PROMLIT customers is constantly growing.

In November 2005 a new Heinrich Wagner Sinto V-process molding line with flask size 3000x1800x500/500 mm was put into production at PROMLIT foundry. The production rate of the new line is 20 moulds per hour. The line is intended for production of Side Frames and Bolsters for railroad cars as well as other large size castings for machine building industry. The V-process is the latest and the most environment friendly molding processes. This production line will considerably increase the production of top quality castings.

Much attention at PROMLIT is paid to improvement of employee's working conditions and environment protection. All arc furnaces are in special shelters from which fumes and dust generated during metal melting are evacuated to BagHouse (Sweden) cleaning system. The V-process molding line recently set in operation uses the most environment friendly method of mold making excluding harmful wastes.
